Grow as a Data-Literate Educator

You don't have to navigate complex datasets alone. Data is an integral part of scientific discovery. We're here to help you make it make sense together through our expert-led sessions for schools and districts.

NSTA × Tuva Professional Development Session

90% of educators believe data literacy is essential. Only 23% feel fully prepared to teach it.

NSTA and Tuva are closing the data confidence gap, providing the resources and pedagogical fluency needed to make complex phenomena accessible to every student.

Our Approach

Our co-designed professional learning workshops build teacher capacity in three key areas:

  • Cultivating students' data skills
  • Bridging science and engineering practices with the statistical reasoning emphasized in math instruction
  • Leveraging authentic data to foster deeper sensemaking and student engagement

New District Offering

This workshop, co-developed by the NSTA and Tuva professional learning teams, offers a deep dive into using local data as evidence in making sense of complex phenomena. At the start of the session, educators will pose questions about a local anchoring phenomenon and use the Tuva Tools to explore and visualize real datasets in pursuit of answers. The latter half will include a community science experience, where participants will gather and analyze their own data. Participants will leave with practical strategies for guiding students to use mathematics and science practices to uncover patterns in their communities.
